AIG International - Public Policy Forum American International Group, Inc. (AIG) is the leading U.S.-based international insurance company and one of the largest underwriters of commercial and industrial coverage in the world. AIG's 35,000 employees and intermediary agents engage in a broad range of insurance and insurance-related activities and provide financial services in the U.S. and abroad.
| Objective |
To educate company members on trade-related issues impacting AIG's businesses and provide an easily accessible tool for an employee-based lobbying effort directed at congressional representatives considering relevant legislation in Washington.
| Project Scope |
Build company-wide intranet with database and personalized congressional links.
| The Solution |
To enlist the necessary support for a powerful, company-wide, grass-roots lobbying effort, the office of Corporate and International Affairs recognized that the first challenge would be educating employees on the issues. The task seemed formidable, as few people have a full understanding of the direct impact of trade legislation and fewer still are moved to action by its importance. But examining AIG's history in the global marketplace, a history rich with stories of adventurous actions and successes on all continents, Xtential determined a clear path to engaging AIG employees.
The end goal of the worldwide intranet was to have employees send a personalized eMail to their members of congress explaining AIG's position on current trade legislation. Xtential designed the site to highlight this function and enable AIG employees to conveniently execute this important action from anywhere on the site. To provide incentive, our Web strategists developed the complimentary sections, turning the basic communication tool into a high-tech news and information source that would ensure repeated use.
Here are some of the sections Xtential created:
Message from the Chairman: M.R. Greenberg's successful leadership of AIG since 1969 has made him one of the most respected business leaders in the world. This section allows the chairman to communicate directly with employees on the latest legislative developments that have the potential to impact the company

The Issues |
Highlighting trade legislation under consideration, this section provides issue summaries in plain English with supporting statements and testimony by company leaders. Eye on Washington: To provide color to the issue-related text, "Eye on Washington" provides a daily dose of political news to encourage site traffic.

Employees Making a Difference |
Tying the site together, "Employees" provides an in-depth look at AIG in the global marketplace, underscoring the historical significance of free trade for the company and its clients and highlighting the achievements of individuals who braved new frontiers to build the company.
Together with the personalized eMail link to Congress, these sections of the Corporate and International Affairs intranet provide AIG with a unique opportunity to impact important legislation in Washington.
